"Supporting the Light"
2007: Reaching Out

“One man’s loss is another man’s gain” and as the week went on the question arose regarding what to do with the extra bibles! As we considered the options, Charlie mentioned the local secondary school where the pupils are generally mature students due to the fee paying requirement.

So with the 4x4 loaded with the extra bibles, we headed of early the next morning to arrive before school started. The assistant head give us a warm welcome and invited us into his office where Charlie was able to explain to him our proposal.

The assistant head soon had the students gathered under the shade of some trees and explained that we had brought 200 bibles that would be distributed 40 to the school RE department and 40 to each of the four class years.

As the pupils were completing their end- of-year exams, it was decided that the top 40 in each year would receive a bible.

Charlie asked if it would be okay to speak to the pupils and challenge them about life, but first, George seeing the opportunity to sing to students who knew some English, sang a few songs of worship in preparation of Charlie speaking.

The young people listened very well as Charlie shared with them a challenging word and prayed with them.

As usual, George wanted some photos to mark the occasion and to use in PowerPoint presentation etc, and the assistant head was only too willing to oblige.

The head boy and the head girl were both invited to the front to pose for the camera as representative of the bibles being presented to all.

And Charlie did not do too bad a job of posing for the camera either! :)

Indeed, it was thumbs up for 160 students who received a copy of God’s word – His manual for life and living! We heard later that some were offering them for sale, but rather than being discouraged, we rejoiced that people who wanted a copy of the bible, were receiving it!
